Sahana Software Foundation Logos

Task: Develop new logos for Sahana Software Foundation, Sahana Eden, and Sahana Agasti with a complementary look and feel, complete with related branding (Fonts, Colors, Document & Slide Templates). Once the logo task is completed, we will add additional tasks for font, document and slide templates.

The purpose of this task is to design logos for the Sahana Software Foundation and to represent its projects broadly. Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white as well as color. The logo should be scalable (from small website emblem or business card size to poster size) without loss of detail. The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing.

In addition, logos for the Sahana Eden and Sahana Agasti project should be completed with complementary color schemes and look/feel. (Eden: Emergency Development ENvironment and Agasti (Mountain Thrower) should provide plenty of good design ideas.

The logo must be original work of the entrant. Because of the requirement to register the logo as a Service Mark, designers should take care to ensure that their submissions are not in any way similar to existing logos or other copyrighted images. A logo that cannot be registered as a Service Mark, no matter how well crafted, cannot be used by the Sahana Software Foundation.

Ideas

The following are some ideas and requirements for Sahana Software Foundation logos:

  • The logo for the Sahana Software Foundation should contain a sunflower in some form, which has been used as a Sahana logo since the beginning. This image should be graphic and not photographic (which is what we use now), but must be recognizable as a sunflower.

What we currently use is a photographic image as opposed to a graphic and far too complex.

This (above) is a graphic image (although possibly still too complex). You will find other sunflower images on our website and wiki.

  • The Sahana Software Foundation logo might also contain the letters “SSF”. The “SSF” lettering should emulate the stylized lettering (and the colors – green/red-orange/yellow) used in the LSF logo (see example) as a tribute to Sahana’s heritage.

LSF logo

  • Consider providing two variants of the logo using the same basic design but with the addition of the word “Sahana” (on one) and the words “Sahana Software Foundation” (on the other). The letters “SSF” would not be required on these variants.
  • The logo should not contain any other text besides that required above (or “Eden” and “Agasti” for those logos).

Due to the requirements for high quality printing and re-sizing Entries must submitted in Scalable Vector Graphic format (EPS). We advise against the use of halftones and gradients unless created inside a vector graphics program. Color in this version must be CMYK, no spot colors.

Publicity and Property Ownership

All logo entries become the property of the Sahana Software Foundation and may be displayed publicly. By submitting a logo you waive any ownership rights to material produced.  As well, you agree to release the Sahana Software Foundation and their employees, officers, directors, agents successors and assignees from all claims, demands, damages or actions or causes of action of any nature whatsoever, arising or to arise from the use of any aforementioned materials. By submitting a logo for entry in the competition, you acknowledge that you are the person who created the logo and are its rightful owner. All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design. You also certify that the logo does not infringe upon the rights of any third party and that it does not violate any copyright. The Foundation reserves the right to have the winning concept further developed by a creative team, if required. The winning entry will be registered by Sahana Software Foundation as a Service Mark and the Entrant agrees to transfer all right and title to the Entry to SSF.
