Case Tracking Module

This is really a module to provide a case tracking/mapping module. There have been plenty of Google Maps pop up following the Swine flu outbreak, and this is something we should perhaps try to implement in Sahana. Clearly we could try and be a bit smarter and automate some of it. E.g. H1N1 Swine Flu Map

Some of the things this module needs to be able to do:

  • Record cases as point sources (these will most likely be focused on the centre of cities/towns and/or hospitals).
  • Be able to aggregate point sources up to regional and national polygons.
  • Be able to record a source document (e.g. URL) as reference for a case (maybe who.int, cdc.gov etc)
  • May want to provide a reconciliation process. E.g. if an official report says that there are x cases being tracked in a region, yet we have y. We should be able to manually tick the cases up to x to provide a reconciliation process (e.g. a little like bank balance reconciliation)
  • We also need to be able to produce 'sensible' cartography. One problem I've noted with the mashups being produced are that a number of them are not using intuitive symbology. E.g. the map above uses an approach of one marker for each case, instead of using increasingly larger markers and aggregating all points into one.
