Feature Guide - Map and GIS

Sahana users can locate the operational area using your installation's supported Geographical Information System, either Google Maps or (forthcoming) OpenLayers. The former is discussed below.

Using Google Maps

As an example task, consider an inspection of where disaster relief organizations are located, using the Organization Registry (figures below). The map appears, centered at the default location chosen for your Sahana installation. You can navigate over the map, moving its boundaries, by either left-mouse-button-dragging directly on the map, or by using the four arrow buttons in the top-left-hand corner of the map. Below those buttons is a scale and '+'/'-' buttons to enlarge/reduce the size of the map. Buttons in the top-right-hand corner allow switching between a schematic map drawing, 'Satellite' (overhead photographic) map, and 'Hybrid' map with roads drawn atop photo images.

User can mark their location of activity on the map by left clicking on the map. The location marker can be removed by clicking on the marker again [although this is not working in version 0.6 and will re-addressed in 0.7]. When you select a location, Sahana will record its longitude and latitude automatically (without displaying it). If you know your longitude and latitude in decimal form, you can enter it in the two fields given (only one of which is shown in these screen shots), instead of marking it on the Google Maps.
