Not all guides are complete, so if you are able to please do contribute to expanding Sahana knowledge base. What Sahana Is

An introduction to the Sahana Disaster Management System

Sahana is a web-based disaster management application that provides management solutions, focusing on large-scale humanitarian disasters. It enables enhanced coordination by promoting integrated information gathering. It assists collaboration by providing a number of communication mechanisms in the aftermath of a disasters. How Sahana can be useful in disaster situations

Sahana functions both online as well as a stand alone tool for disaster management, depending on the operational considerations. As it is a web based system, users can access it via their local machine, from within the network, as part of a corporate intranet or anywhere in world via the Internet. This means it can be installed on a laptop, for workers in the field and at a central command center for overall coordination. Supported Operating Systems and Web Browsers

Sahana supports all modern operating systems and browsers, including MS Windows, Mac OSX, Ubuntu and other Unix-like systems. Your browser must have JavaScript enabled, and your operating system must be able to run the Apache HTTP Server, the PHP programming language and MySQL database software. If you don't know what these are, the Installation Guide below will assist you. Detailed criteria are available here.

Support is able to provided primarily for MS Windows, Mac OSX and Ubuntu users via sahana-user@lists.sourceforge.net.

Installation Guides

Installing Sahana takes a few steps, because it runs off a web server. You will end up running Sahana through a web browser, rather than directly from the Start menu (if you run MS Windows).

Getting Sahana Working (Phase 1)

This phase will install the software. Once everything appears to be working correctly, Sahana will do a self-check. You will be asked to enter the details of your database users and passwords. Those instructions are detailed in phase 2, below.
